The Rowler is a school project run by students in the American Studies MA program, University of Bucharest, and is meant to document how Romania, in particular, and Eastern Europe, in general, are understood and represented by American media, be they movies, comic books, music, newspapers, what have you.

Credits for implementing this project go to the MA co-ordinator of the American Studies Department, Prof. Dr. Roxana Oltean.

The Rowler is an exercise of observation, documentation, analysis and interpretation of the American gaze upon this part of the world, often times written off as obsolete, backwards, run-down, noisy, messy, disorganized.
Key in dealing with these stereotypes, is understanding the viewer's perpective, that is, America, of its own status and role in the grand scheme of things.
