Captain America : Civil War - Tribute scene for a Romanian actor
Captain America: Civil War is a 2016 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Captain America, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the sequel to 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger and 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the thirteenth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and features an ensemble cast, including Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp, Tom Holland, Frank Grillo, William Hurt, and Daniel Brühl. The plot revolves around the struggles of the Avengers team (Captain America, the Iron Man, the Black Widow, etc.) to find the Winter Soldier (ex-U.S. soldier Bucky Barnes, who was brainwashed and transformed into an assassin by a villainous enterprise). However, they had two opposite reasons for finding Barnes: some (like Captain America/ Steve Rogers, who is Bucky’s childhood friend) wanted to find Barnes in order to protect him, while others (like the Iron Man) wanted to find him in order to bring him to justice for his crimes (as an assassin).
At one point in the movie, Barnes can be seen hiding in Bucharest, Romania. Later on, at the apartment where he now hides, which is quite shabby-looking unlike the rest of the buildings of the city, a full fight ensues between Buck, Steve (who tracked him down and who is on his side) and the United Nations’ troops who came there to capture him. The most important part of the movie, in my opinion, aside from images of Bucharest, is the fact that Bucky was given an approximate 10 sec scene, where he gets to speak in Romanian: he goes to a street stall where he buys plums and he asks he merchant if they are good and fresh, what is their price and that he wants to buy 1 kilo. After the film was released, it was revealed that the directors especially inserted this scene in the movie as a tribute to the Romanian actor who plays Barnes, Sebastian Stan, and who declared, later on, that he was very happy and felt very honored of this “gift”.
