Love by Design – Discovering your destiny in the picturesque Romanian landscape
Danielle Luca has abandoned her Romanian roots to work her way up the ladder to Fashion Editor of Manhattan’s glamorous Beguile Magazine. But when the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Vivien Thompson steals her concept and give it to Danielle’s nemesis so she can land a big spread for a hot fashion designer, Danielle loses her cool, her job and her boyfriend.
With her reputation now shattered, Danielle decides to go off the grid to let things cool off. She returns to her home in Romania she finds herself a fish out of water but eventually reconnects with her family and her teenage passion for designing clothes. On a jaunt into the village on her scooter, Danielle literally runs into Adrian Edwards a handsome British man. Sparks fly and with a new relationship burgeoning, things begin to look up for Danielle. But when she finds out that Adrian is the silent owner of the local Clothing Manufacturing plant with plans to close it down, Danielle jumps to conclusions. Before Adrian has a chance to explain himself, Danielle must head back to New York to premiere her new clothing line at fashion week where to the surprise of all her former Beguile colleagues, she becomes an overnight success. Suddenly her old boyfriend wants her back and Vivien offers her a better job, but Adrian has plans of his own. When he follows Danielle to New York, to tell her he has found a way to save the plant with hopes she will become its head designer, Danielle realizes that despite all her efforts to escape her Romanian past, she has actually found her future.
This is a lovely romantic comedy that is located in Romania (Transylvania) and is a very good depiction of the Romanian present-day life in a small village. Although it is quite amusing that the main character doesn’t speak Romanian and she addresses her family in English, and they answer her in Romanian, it also presents many idyllic sceneries that are part of this country. Moreover, it presents the blossoming love between a Romanian (Danielle) and a Brit (Adrian) – a sign that love can transcend nationality, religion, language or location.
